Logistics & Operations
Cowboy Space
TL;DR
They are building bespoke rockets to haul GPU clusters into orbit because Earth's power grids are tapped out and cooling is getting too expensive.
Who is this actually for?
Mega-cap AI labs and hyperscalers who have exhausted terrestrial power permits and need to dump heat into the vacuum of space.
The Good
- Solves the literal physical limit of how much power we can pull from local grids for AI training.
- Zero land-use issues or NIMBY complaints about massive warehouse footprints.
The Catch (Potential Downsides)
Hardware maintenance in orbit is impossible; if a rack fails, it is just expensive space junk. Radiation hardening for sensitive GPUs will likely eat most of their margins.
